Mont Kiara is in the north-west of Kuala Lumpur, next to Sri Hartamas, North Kiara, Segambut, Taman Duta and the KL Metropolis district around Jalan Dutamas. Mont Kiara itself is mostly high-rise condominiums, while Sri Hartamas and Taman Duta add landed homes, from link and semi-detached houses to bungalows. It has long been a favourite of expatriate families, with international schools such as Garden International School and Mont’Kiara International School, and malls and dining at 1 Mont Kiara, Plaza Mont Kiara, Publika and Hartamas Shopping Centre.

Mont Kiara has no rail station of its own. The nearest is Segambut Komuter, and feeder buses link the area to it and to Semantan MRT station. The MRT3 Circle Line is planned to add a Sri Hartamas station that would serve Mont Kiara, but the route was only approved in July 2025, construction is expected from about 2027 and opening is targeted for around 2032, so for now most residents drive or use ride-hailing. Several expressways meet at the edge of the area, so highway access is good, but the roads in and out of Mont Kiara and Sri Hartamas are busy at peak hours. In return, buyers get a self-contained community with schools, shops and restaurants close by.

  • Buyers who value space, amenities and a self-contained neighbourhood and are comfortable driving.
  • Investors targeting expatriate and professional tenants, who have long favoured the area.

Check before you buy

  • Transit reality. Do not pay a premium for MRT3 yet: it has not started construction and the timeline can slip. Check the real distance to any proposed station and how you would get to a station today.
  • Peak-hour traffic on the roads in and out of the area. Drive the route at school-run and rush hour before you commit.
  • Tenure and rental competition. Confirm whether the title is freehold or leasehold, and how many similar units are already for rent in the same building and nearby.
